Named to national council: Buffalo HSC’s Robert Baier, a professor of oral diagnostic sciences in the university’s School of Dental Medicine and director of the Industry/University Center on Biosurfaces, has been appointed a member of the National Research Council’s Committee on Marine Biotechnology: Development of Marine Natural Products.

The National Research Council is the principal operating agency of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering in providing services to the government, the public, and the scientific and engineering communities.

Researchers feted: Two SUNY Buffalo distinguished professors in the departments of art and English, respectively, were among 25 researchers in the humanities, arts, social sciences and the professions to be honored by SUNY for lifetime achievements.

Harvey Breverman’s prints, paintings and drawings are included in the permanent collections of more than 150 museums and galleries worldwide, including the British Museum in London.

The university’s Samuel P. Capen chair in poetry and humanities, Robert Creeley previously received the Bolligen Prize in Poetry, joining an elite group that includes Robert Frost.
