The Voice May - June 2003 Potsdam professor earns prestigious dissertation award — Robert Doggett, an assistant professor of English and communication at SUNY Potsdam, recently was awarded the Adele Dalsimer Prize for Distinguished Dissertation in Irish Studies by the American Conference for Irish Studies (ACIS).
Doggett’s dissertation, “Deep-Rooted Things,” focuses on the works of William Butler Yeats, a celebrated and influential poet and playwright born in Ireland but often classified as a British poet. Doggett offers a new approach by focusing directly on the events in Ireland that Yeats witnessed and that shaped the direction of his art.
“This is a theoretically sophisticated and substantial new look at Yeats that is also beautifully written — elegant, cogent, supple and sure,” according to the committee of scholars that reviewed Doggett’s work.
ACIS is a multidisciplinary scholarly organization with approximately 1,500 members worldwide. It was founded in 1960 and is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a nonprofit organization.
