In thanks — Certificates of appreciation were given to nine outgoing chapter presidents. Recognized were: John Boot, SUNY Buffalo; Fred Kowal, Cobleskill; Barbara Maertz, Farmingdale; Ken Kallio, Geneseo; Tony DelToro, Mari-time; Norm Payne, Oneonta; Kathleen Whittier, Plattsburgh; Ed Alfonsin, Potsdam; and Gary Scherzer, Utica/Rome.

They were recognized for their “distinguished service and commitment to SUNY, its academic and professional faculty and the values of academic unionism.”

Class-action suit — Delegates OK’d a resolution calling on UUP to ask NYSUT, AFT and the AFL-CIO to support — “through all available political and legal action” — a lawsuit filed against Wal-Mart on behalf of 1.5 million women.

The resolution, submitted by the Women’s Rights Committee, states that, on April 28, attorneys filed a motion for class certification in San Francisco District Court for “systemic sex discrimination across the U.S.”

UUP was also asked to keep chapters up to date on the progress of the lawsuit.
