At the DA: Fighting for farmworkers

A pioneer in the fight to organize New York’s farmworkers made an impassioned plea to UUP members gathered at the Spring DA.

“The rights we take for granted, for our sisters and brothers the farmworkers, are still dreams,” said Aspacio Alcantara, who spoke to the more than 250 delegates and guests in attendance. “I hope you stand with us to ask legislators, ‘Why don’t agricultural workers have the same rights as other workers?’”

UUPers responded with a contribution of $560 collected when the hat was passed during the DA.

Alcantara is director of the Centro Independiente de Trabajadores Agricolas (CITA) in Montgomery County.
