Link fundraiser: ‘Silent auction’ slated; members’ help wanted — Trustees of the Eugene P. Link College Scholar-ship Trust Fund are planning a “silent auction” to benefit the union’s student scholarship program. Gertrude Butera of SUNY Alfred, honorary Link Fund trustee, is coordinating the silent auction; she is urging members to donate and/or bid on prizes. All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund. Possible gift donations include quilts, photographs, theater tickets, paintings, books, baskets, boat rides and weekend getaways. Anyone wishing to donate a prize or service should contact Butera at bubusserv@infoblvd.net by March 12.

The list of prizes and a bid form will be published in the April issue of The Voice. Members are required to mail or fax (to UUP headquarters, 866/812-9446, attn: Trudy Butera) a separate bid form for each item on which they’ve decided to bid. The deadline for bids is April 25. Winning bidders will be announced at the 2003 Spring Delegate Assembly, scheduled for May 2-3.

Former state senator named SUNY trustee — Former state Sen. Ronald Stafford is now a confirmed member of the SUNY Board of Trustees. Stafford, who retired in December from the state Senate after nearly four decades, will fill the unexpired term of Nelson A. Rockefeller Jr. His term, which will be served without pay, expires June 30, 2008, according to Otaway News Service. “Sen. Stafford has an established record as a friend of SUNY and his addition to the Board of Trustees must be viewed as a positive development,” UUP President William Scheuerman said. “UUP welcomes him and looks forward to working with him to strengthen and support our state university.”

Co-author of the state’s landmark Tuition Assistance Program legislation, Stafford serves on the Board of Visitors of Columbia University School of Law and the boards of trustees of St. Lawrence University and Paul Smiths College.
