New NYSUT retiree dental plan now available

UUP retirees have a new retiree dental plan available to them from NYSUT Benefit Trust. This program has been approved for offering by UUP’s Committee on Active Retired Membership. MetLife underwrites this plan. It pays benefits for three categories of service: Preventive (e.g., cleanings, exams, X-rays), restorative (e.g., fillings; simple extractions; crown, denture, bridge repair) and major restorative (e.g., surgical extractions, general anesthesia, oral surgery, bridges, dentures).

Members have the choice of using a participating MetLife dentist or a non-participating dentist. There is an annual benefit maximum of $1,250 per person for covered services rendered by any dentist.

When a participating dentist is used, the plan provides paid-in-full benefits for preventive services. Members will have out-of-pocket costs for all restorative services. There is no deductible for any type of service.

When an out-of-network dentist is used, restorative services are subject to an annual deductible, which is $50 for individual coverage and $100 for family coverage.

Retired NYSUT/UUP members are eligible to apply. Members may also apply for coverage for their spouses, domestic partners and children under age 19, or age 23 if unmarried and a full-time student.

Eligible members who use pension deductions to pay for the plan will incur no service fees. There is a $4 fee per billing cycle for direct billing; frequency of direct billing can be quarterly, semi-annual or annual.
