SUNY’s a ‘great investment’

Trustees go for flat budget

At Voice press time, the SUNY Board of Trustees approved a flat budget for 2002-03 that lacks vision, according to UUP. The $6.7 billion overall budget plan calls for $1.8 billion in state funding and fails to request an increase in public support for SUNY.

“While UUP certainly understands the financial stress the state is facing, the trustees’ budget proposal is short-sighted,” said UUP President William Scheuerman.

“SUNY is crucial to the state’s well-being and should be central in New York’s fiscal recovery,” he said. “By approving a flat budget, the trustees grossly underestimate the impact that SUNY can have on the state’s economic renewal.”
