Here’s one resolution to keep

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably broken one or two New Year’s resolutions by now. It’s not too late to make one more, and NYSUT Member Benefits has the vehicle to help members actually achieve it.

Members without a will, or with one that needs to be updated, should consider NYSUT’s Legal Service Plan.

This is especially true if you have children under the age of 18 or have dependents with special needs. A will allows you to legally name a guardian for your children. It also ensures your estate will be distributed according to your wishes. Without a valid will, these very important, personal decisions are made by the state.

The legal plan provides one simple will or update, at no charge. Members also receive access to unlimited, toll-free legal advice from plan attorneys, who will make phone calls and write third-party correspondence, at no charge, to resolve legal situations.

In addition, enrollees receive two coupons for free, hour-long consultations with a plan attorney.

Is there a real estate transaction coming up in the near future? Traffic violations? With the legal plan, members can receive legal assistance on a variety of legal matters. Many other benefits are provided, including plan attorneys located nationwide, guaranteed maximum fees on a number of personal legal matters and a legal newsletter covering consumer-oriented issues. Optional elder law and business protection riders can be purchased to provide specialized benefits to the plan.

Retiree members can opt to enroll in the Retiree Legal Service Plan.
