Cover story: The family of UUP

UUPers are a diverse lot. That diversity is part of the union’s strength; part of what makes it interesting and vital.

Like most of society’s members, UUPers fill many roles and wear many hats. They are, of course, unionists. Many are leaders. They’re academics and campus professionals. They’re volunteers and activists.

And they’re family. They’re wives, husbands and partners. Sons and daughters. Parents, grandparents and caregivers.

And UUP — through its strong contract, impressive benefits package and influence at the state Capitol and on SUNY campuses — helps its members to meet the demands of these important family roles.

Whether it’s a major medical reimbursement, student scholarship or a child-care placement, UUP addresses quality-of-life issues on a daily basis, giving its members the support they need to be happy and healthy in their home lives while being productive contributors on the job.
