The Voice December 2002 Theme: ’01 recipient now a UUPer at Oswego When Joseph Storch first visited SUNY Oswego as a high school student, he immediately fell in love with the campus and decided that this was the college for him.
“It’s interesting to have won the scholarship one year and be in the union the next year,” said Storch, who is now a member of UUP’s Oswego chapter as a professional employee.
Storch, 22, said the scholarship was a huge honor and very useful financially. He said he is proud to be a Link scholar and a SUNY graduate and is thrilled to be able to spread the message about the strong academic program at Oswego as a new admissions counselor.
Storch, a native of North Merrick, Long Island, comes from a family of strong unionists. His father is a former chapter chair and delegate with the United Federation of Teachers — NYSUT’s New York City local — and his grandparents were staunch supporters of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
At Oswego, Storch completed a major in communications and political science and a minor in public policy and public administration. His goal is to attend law school but, for now, he is enjoying his admissions job. “I really enjoy working with the students,” Storch said. “It’s a very fulfilling experience.”
