UUP betters its mark in VOTE/COPE donations

The numbers are in and UUPers have once again outdone themselves.

The final results from NYSUT’s 2002 VOTE/COPE campaign show UUP’s contribution was nearly $140,000, about 9 percent higher than the previous year. In all, NYSUT raised more than $4.5 million in voluntary contributions to its non-partisan political action fund, also a 9 percent increase from 2001.

“This unprecedented level of support shows that our members are willing and ready to fight for their professions, their students and the institutions in which they work,” said Alan Lubin, NYSUT’s executive vice president.

UUP VOTE/COPE Coordinator Thomas Tucker of SUNY Buffalo said that every dollar raised during the record-setting campaign is needed in 2003.

“Public higher ed is being starved. Jobs are in jeopardy, access is endangered and quality is threatened,” Tucker said. “VOTE/COPE allows us to be the aggressive advocates SUNY needs.”
