President of United University Professions
Regarding Gov. Paterson’s State of the State Address

“I’m encouraged that Gov. Paterson considers higher education such a priority that he mentioned it several times during his address.

“In addition to proposing both a new Higher Education Loan Program and expanding public/private partnerships to promote access to college, the governor said the state must spend its money more effectively.

“We agree, and we believe one of the most effective expenditures the state can make is investing in the State University of New York, to ensure it remains a world-class educational system.

“We stand ready to work with the governor to make sure that happens.”
