UUP unveils legislative program at legislative luncheon
On Tuesday, February 12th, United University Professions (UUP) will introduce its 2008 legislative agenda and detail its budget priorities during the union’s annual Legislative Luncheon. The luncheon begins at noon in the well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany. All state legislators have been invited to attend.
UUP President Phillip H. Smith will present the union’s legislative priorities. He’ll be joined at the podium by a number of prominent lawmakers, including:
- Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno
- Assembly Majority Leader Ron Canestrari
- Sen. Kenneth LaValle, chairman, Senate Higher Education Committee
- Assembly Member Deborah Glick, chairman, Assembly Higher Education Committee
Dozens of UUP members from SUNY campuses across New York state will attend and meet with lawmakers from their respective districts.
UUP represents more then 34,000 academic and professional faculty on 29 New York State-operated campuses and is an affiliate of New York State United Teachers, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the AFL-CIO.
