UUP introduces legislative program at legislative luncheon -
On Tuesday, February 7th, United University Professions (UUP) will formally introduce its legislative program and detail its budget priorities during its annual Legislative Luncheon. The luncheon begins at noon in the well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany.
UUP President William E. Scheuerman will present the union’s legislative priorities. He’ll be joined at the podium by a number of prominent lawmakers, including:
Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno
Senate Minority Leader David Patterson
Assembly Majority Leader Paul Tokasz
Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco
Senator Kenneth LaValle, chairman of Senate Higher Education Committee
Assemblyman Ron Canestrari, chairman of Assembly Higher Education Committee
Dozens of UUP members from SUNY campuses across New York State will be there to lend their support and meet with lawmakers from their respective districts.The luncheon will also feature a performance at 1pm by UUP members from the New York State Theatre Institute (NYSTI).
UUP represents more then 34,000 academic and professional faculty on 29 New York state-operated campuses, and is an affiliate of New York State United Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO. Scheuerman also serves as president of AFT’s Higher Education Program and Policy Council, representing 150,000 higher education union members across the nation.
