Quinn elected UUP's membership development officer

Albany, Feb. 4, 2003 -- Delegates to United University Professions Winter Delegate Assembly in Albany have elected Edward H. Quinn of SUNY Stony Brook as the union's new statewide membership development officer. Quinn fills the unexpired term of Frederick Kowal of SUNY Cobleskill, who recently resigned.
Assistant to the chair of SUNY Stony Brook's Department of Theatre Arts, Quinn ran unopposed in a special election last weekend. His term ends May 31, 2003.Quinn has been chair of UUP's Membership Committee for nearly five years. He is a member of the union's statewide Executive Board and of the UUP Negotiations Team, which will soon begin talks with the state for a new collective bargaining agreement. He is also vice chair of the statewide Professional Issues Committee and serves as a delegate to UUP's affiliate conventions of New York State United Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers.
At UUP's Stony Brook Chapter, Quinn is vice president for professionals and coordinator of VOTE/COPE, the NYSUT political action campaign. He has attended both the NYSUT Leadership and Organizing institutes.
Before taking his current position on the Stony Brook campus, Quinn was assistant director of the Department of Student Union and Activities.
His community service includes two years as chair of the Brookhaven Youth Orchestra Board of Directors, as well as production manager and stage manager. He also has volunteered at WUSB Radio on campus.
Quinn earned both his bachelor's degree in elementary education and master's in policy and management from SUNY at Stony Brook. He and his wife live in Miller Place and have two children.
